Jewelry Tree Makeover

Friday, March 8

It all started with an innocent picture I found on Pinterest from Jess Lively:

Do you see that jewelry tree hanger on top of that jewelry box? One look and I was smitten. I'm always looking for a better way to store my jewelry. A prettier way, too. Lucky for me, Jess mentioned that she got her tree from Urban Outfitters. Unlucky for me, when I tried to buy one online, they were all sold out of white. So I decided to hit up a few Urban Outfitter stores. None there, either. All they had were the silver metal ones. I'd rather have just bought a white one, but in since that wasn't an option, I came home with a silver tree, some metal primer, and white Rust-Oleum spray paint.

I took a light sanding block to the tree. It's already pretty "roughed up," and it's supposed to be. I didn't want to take any of that away. After sanding I washed it off, dried it, and sprayed a light coat of metal primer on top.

After letting it dry a bit, I sprayed a thin coat of white paint, let it dry some more, then added a glossy top coat to make it shine.

I let it sit and dry for 24 hours, and then this little beauty was ready to come inside!

Mm, it's so pretty. I'm loving the white. It's amazing what a little bit of spray paint can do.
